Latest Health Update for Jeffrey

I can honestly say, the past couple of months have been a roller coaster ride regarding Jeffreys health. In the past week, it has been a very huge decision as to whether or not Jeffrey should go on to Hong Kong or stay state side. He has been diagnosed with Cyclic Neutropenia. This is a very rare blood disorder. One in 1,000,000 people get it. The doctors do not know where Jeffrey got this, how he got this, why it manifested itself right now, and at this stage there is no treatment. There is no way to determine whether it will get worse, better or possibly even go away. Bottom line... there is just not a great deal of information. To simply summarize Jeffreys condition his white blood count is cycling low. His count cycles between 3.0 and 4.1 A normal WBC should range between 4.5 - 11.0. The biggest concern is bacterial infection of any kind. He has numerous symptoms. As a normal mother, I say kidnap him, bring him home and never let him out of my sight again..... If only it were that easy. AGAIN, we thank so many of you for your love, support, prayers, letters and encouragement. Jeffs parents, Jack and Nancy are amazing! Jeffrey is one loved grandson. Jack, also referred to as "pap", Jeffreys grandfather, has been unbelievable in helping us. If you have any questions about supplements or herbs, he is the man to talk to! ***Do you remember back in the beginning of this blog when Jeffrey started to have difficulties? I mentioned Bishop Larson. He was our Bishop in New Canaan. Well, he has been so instrumental in our families life, incredibly so with Jeffrey. He has continued to support, love and guide us every step of the way. He called his uncle. The first uncle was an Infectious Disease Specialist. He gave us wonderful insight. He then called another uncle. Elder Ballard. The list goes on as to the phone calls that have been made on Jeffreys behalf. To President Hinckley (the late Presidents son) a member of the Quorum of the 70 who oversees all missions, and to another specialist in Salt Lake City. Bishop Larson has spent days and hours in helping us to do what is best for Jeffrey. With a great deal of research into the medical situation in Hong Kong, and many opinions from several specialists, countless prayers and fasting, Jeffrey will be going on to Hong Kong! He will be leaving Utah on July 5th. Arriving to serve the people of China. He is about as excited and happy and anxious as they come! No need for anyone in Utah to go to Bath and Body Works.......I bought them out of all antibacterial products yesterday!

2nd to last Pday....12 days left, so crazy....can't wait...lovin life..

I can't believe Jeffrey will only be in Utah for 12 more days. There is something about knowing he is 25 minutes away that is quite comforting. Jeffrey had the opportunity to run into a missionary today that he grew up with in California. Elder Dallas Bruce, who entered the MTC today. Jeffreys exact quote, "It was sooo cool to see him here at the MTC!" It certainly won't be as easy to send him care packages or mail. I've been spoiled with DearElder and Zoom. To all of his family and friends that are continuing to support Jeffrey, THANK YOU! He tells me every time how much he loves hearing from everyone. Keep it up! I am having to retype his email that he sent today. I guess he had major problems with the computer and the keyboard at the MTC. Bare with me, it's like deciphering a doctors writing.

DEAR FAMILY AND FRIENDS,
-WE KNOW WE ARE SUCCESSFUL IF WE LIVE SO THAT WE QUALIFY FOR, RECEIVE, AND KNOW HOW TO FOLLOW THE SPIRIT.... THE LORD KNOWS WHO WE REALLY ARE, WHAT WE REALLY THINK, WHAT WE REALLY DO, AND WHO WE ARE REALLY BECOMING......... -IT REQUIRES COURAGE TO MAKE GOOD CHOICES EVEN WHEN OTHERS AROUND US CHOOSE DIFFERENTLY. AS WE MAKE RIGHTEOUS CHOICES DAY BY DAY IN LITTLE THINGS THE LORD WILL STRENGTHEN US AND HELP US CHOOSE THE RIGHT DURING THE MORE DIFFICULT TIMES.
Does the journey seem long,
The path rugged and steep,
Are there briars and thorns on the way,
Do sharp stones cut your feet,
As you struggle to rise,
To the heights through the heat of the day,
Is your heart faint and sad,
Now the journeys begun,
There is one who beckons to you,
So look upward in joy,
And take hold of his hand,
He will lead you to heights of new
A land holy and pure,
Where all trouble doth end
and your life shall be free from all sin
Where no tears shall be shed,
for no sorrows remain
take his hand and with him enter in.

At times you may feel weary, though you sometimes may not be able to see the way, know your Heavenly Father will not forsake his righteous followers. He will not leave you comfortless. He will be at your side, yes guiding you every step of the way. Lets have the courage and start our climbs up our own Mt. Everest that we may progress in lifes journey step by step until we reach the best that is within us. All He asks is for us to move forward one step at a time. Jacob said, Our lives passed away like as it were unto us a dream.." So lets make the best of each day we are given. Live our lives to their fullest potential. Weekly scripture is Alma 26:12.....
I love you all so much and hope you all are loving life. Miss you all. I can't wait to get to Hong Kong! I am so stoked!!! Thanks for all the letters and prayers.!!!
Are you converted to the Lord or converted to the church? I hope we all can be converted to the Lord and Faithful in the church.
Love you all....Keep it up!!

19 Days until Hong Kong

Here is the email that I received this morning. I actually was able to see him yesterday at the hematologist. If I do say so myself, he is so dang cute! I think what is so difficult for me right now is just knowing that he is physically not feeling well. For the remaining 3 weeks Jeffrey will be getting his blood drawn 3 time a week. I will keep you updated. You can tell by his email that his spirits are up, he has a great desire to serve and to learn. He is ready to go, he just wants to feel better. Please keep him in your prayers. I know they help. He and his companion started talking in Cantonese yesterday and I was so impressed. For all I know, they were making jokes about me. I felt like I do when I go get my nails done. Not that I get my nails done often. Maybe 2 times a year, just saying.....

Dear Family and Friends,
" the lord did not people the earth with a vibrant orchestra of personalities to value the picolos of the world. every instrument is precious and adds the complex beauty of the symphony. All of heavenly fathers childer are different in some degree, yet each has his own beautiful sound that adds depth and richness to the whole" -Elder Wirthlin
-How true is this. we are all so different but can bring so much to this world. not one of us is alike and we need to love everyone for who they are not what they do and how they act. We need to look for the best in EVERYONE>
We all make mistakes:
The question is not whether we will trip and fall, but rather how we will respond and react?
How do you react and respond could you handle it in a more christlike way? Before you act think to yourself how would christ want me to handle this situation? Really think about it.
Dram near to him and he will draw near to you, for he has a promised that they that wait upon the lord shall renew their strength: they shall mount up with wings as eagles: they shall run and not be weary; and the shall walk and not faint.
DRAW NEAR TO HIM, GET TO KNOW HIM SO HE CAN GET TO KNOW YOU!
Control your thoughts because they become the words you use.
Control your words because they become the actions you preform.
Control your actions because they become the habits you aquire.
Control your habits because they become the character you reflect.
Control your character because your character becomes your destiny.
Control your destiny by becoming what your Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ want you to be!
Have i dont any good in the world today?
Have i helped anyone in need?
Have i cheered up the sad and made some feel glad?
IF NOT I HAVE FAILED INDEED!
Has anyones burden been lighter today
Because i was willing to share?
Have the sick and the wearly been helped on their way?
When they need my help WAS I THERE?
Ask yourself these questions daily, it starts with you. You need to be the change of someones life. You need to change your life so you can change others. You need to share your talents and love that Heavenly has given you. By giving and sharing your talents you will show him how grateful you are for all that he has given unto you. If you dont you arent showing him anything, you are making him feel dissapointed, he could have given them to someone else so they would indeed share with those in need.
Four simple things:
1. prayer
2. daily scripture study
3. obedience to follow the commandments
4. Commit to follow our prophets
Now let us remember the words of alma: That by small and simple things are great things brought to pass."
How easy is that and great will be your reward.
Right now all you young men at this time in your life, a mission call from the lord is the most important work you can do. PREPARE NOW., live righteously, learn from your friends, family, and church leaders, and come join ME in building the kingdom god desires here on earth. Accept your diving appt " so great a cause "
All you young men right now need to prepare it was and is one of the biggest mistakes i have done in my life. You can never prepare enough for a mission. Your mission will change your entire life. Your life will be reflected upon your mission. If you want to have a successful mission prepare now. learn and grow in the gospel. have a strong testimony and be who your father in heaven wants you to be. PREPARE NOW. I promise you that if you do you will be blessed and you will be an amazing missionary, not only to young men but to future senior couples. We are in great need of senior couples. Prepare now. You mission like mine will change us into the men he wants us to be.
I love you all and miss you all. i hope that all is well back home and you are having an amazing summer. Eat a lot of good food for me, play hard, have fun, and choose the right.
Ask yourself this question.
ARE YOU ACTIVE OR FAITHFUL?
SO MANY OF YOU ARE ACTIVE LETS CHANGE THAT NOW AND BECOME FAITHFUL. LETS SHOW OUR LOVE TO HF AND JC BY GIVING IT OUR ALL AND SHOWING THEM WHO WE CAN BECOME AND WHAT WE CAN DO. LETS START CHANGING THE WORLD ONE STEP AT A TIME, IT STARTS WITH YOU.
LOVE YOU ALL ;-)

I'm sorry this weeks email is coming late. I was in California for Lindsays birthday. I also have a lot of new pictures to post. I have to get them transferred to a disc to down load them to the computer. So be patient with me. I would like to ask any of you that are interested to please continue your prayers for Jeffreys health. I did get a call and he is not feeling well at all. He also has developed several cysts that have become infected. He will be going back into the hematologist and I will certainly keep you updated. He loves hearing from you! If any of you need his address please let me know. If you create an account at Dearelder.com his mailbox is 197. You need to put a 1_ before Jeffrey. His departure date is July 5th. 21 Swear Words in one week at the MTC......June 2, 2010

It's not as bad as it sounds, as you will see. I can't even imagine trying to distinguish between 7 tones. I don't even know what a tone is! Sad. Jefrey is doing great! Still not feeling great, but hanging tough. As I have been having my own "Pity Party," I read the quote Jeffrey sent about missionaries. "Missionaries leave their families for 2 years, so they can bring families together for the eternities." Pretty much sums it up..... Love that Elder!!!!!!!

"One of the great processes you go through in life is to discover yourself, to find those gifts and capacties god has given you. He has given you great talents the smallest part of which you have just begun to utilize. trust the lord to assist you in unlocking the door to those gifts. Some of us have created imaginary limits in our minds. There is literally a genius locked up inside of each of us. Dont ever let anyone convince you otherwise"
What a great quote one thing that we have been focusing on is talents this week and how we need to use them to our best ability. It doesnt have to be sports, or music, or politcal debates, it can be from the way you smile towards people to how well you can listen and talk to them. You need to start using the talents you have been given more often. If not he will take them away from you one by one.
Storms are what make us strong. Smooth sailing forever is for the weak. Storms build Faith. Study history. During prosperity people become wicked and prideful and weak in faith. During trials people become strong in their faith for we are more compelled to turn to the Lord for help and hepend on him for our strength. - Sister Richey
How true is that. And never be afraid to turn to the lord for ANYTHING HE IS ALWAYS THERE FOR YOU THOUGH MATTER WHAT CHOICES YOU ARE MAKING IN LIFE HE IS ALWAYS THERE FOR YOU.
My compaionship was rocky this week haha bless our hearts. We gave our first lesson in cantonese and i said 21 different swear words because my tones were and still are way off. Yeah the investigator i was teaching didnt reall ylove that. Its funny now and i thought it was funny than because i had no idea but my companions were a little bit upset. Oh well. We heard a talk from Brother Foster last night at devotional and it was by far my favorite. He tied in with it a lot of science applications. It was so sick, but one that that he said that really stook out to me was. " Heavenly Fathers hears every single prayer you say, just know that he doesnt answer them to your time he answers them on his time, be patient it might be a week, a year, 50 years, it may be even after this life that you will recieve that answer."
Scripture of the weeks: D&C 98:1-3
The power of prayer is amazing. Its true and he is always there for you though matter what. He loves you as an individual and wants you to get ot know him.
What have you done today to better achieve the celstial kingdom? whos lives have you impacted? are you achieving the goals and dreams you have put before yourself? What are you doing to be more like christ and follow in his footsteps? what can you do better? and why are you still not doing what you are here on earth to do? Never give up. Pressforward with a stead fast in christ.
" A missionary leaves his family for two years, so that he can bring families together for eternities"
I love you all and hope all is well. Keep writing me!
1 month and here i come hong kong!!!
